Cicadas
05:08
|
|
||
in a little house
the walls are slowly crumbling down
(they always were)
but now I see the cracks
widening, widening
in the deep blue night
alive with yellow-golden light
when all is said and done
we hang our memories out in the sun
they shimmer there
then toward the stars we soar
blissfully, blissfully
in the deep blue night
alive with yellow-golden light
in the deep blue night
all our memories pulsing
in the deep blue night
we are swaddled in cicadas and dark rain

I wouldn’t know
if a flower grew right through my head
a bear wouldn’t know it could eat me
‘cause I’m playing dead
if I could only see
all the beautiful places that I’ve been
I probably wouldn’t be here right now
playing dead with the bears in my own head
playing dead with the bears in my head
playing dead with the bears in my own head
I wouldn’t know
if a flower grew right through my head
a bear wouldn’t know it could eat me
‘cause I’m playing dead

Dreamhouse
05:46
|
|||
a strange woman in a modern house
white walls rise to meet high ceilings
stairs lead down to marble shining
veined with grey, and bright like ice.
what, I wonder, could this family
ever feel, or touch?
a fleet of boys, young and varied,
their mother cold and proud looks on
standing motionless except for lips and eyes
that beckon to a world beyond
then my eyes drift across
drawn by a darkly gleaming view
the house is a giant skeletal beast
with flanks that open out, all glass,
upon a strange sylvan scene:
first the beech trees – silver, silky –
snow-bleached filmy leaves gleam gold
roots run into deep black ground
an eerie light spreads dimly
catching certain things while shadowing others
all slopes lead down to a darkened pool
illuminated by a central
shaft of light
I see the pond is shallow,
blanketed beneath with leaves.
my mind’s eye knows this scene’s a portal,
the woman, her boys, the house:
its guards,
its guards
its guards

At Play
04:05
|
|
||
in the shadow of a doubt
one hopes truth will come about
as the world turns over and goes to sleep
in the thicket of my mind
I have no sense of time
in the thicket of my mind
i have no sense of time
in the thicket of my mind
I have wonders made of clay
come what may
I am but a child at play
come what may
I am but a child at play
lost at sea
my dreams are made of clay
in the thicket of my mind
I go wild to rationalize a child
at play
in the thicket of my mind
i hope truth will come about
as the world turns over and goes to sleep

Ocean's Children
04:41
|
|||
dreams bite
dreams bite
dreams bite
dreams bite
the oceans and their children
drown on the shores of nations
floating, I see
the people of silver
drawing in their nets
to drink the earth
dry with thirst
while on the borders of love,
we can’t fall asleep
you can’t hide above
on the edge of time
on the edge of time
running out of dreams
on the edge of time
forms without function
toiling over phantoms
guided to string our dreams
in patchworks of pictures
time to shake it off
and see what’s real:
blood & oil
while flowing through tangled veins,
we can’t fall asleep
you can’t hide above
running out of dreams
when we are all saltwater
at once with the darkest depths
flying, I move through time
and living is changing
struggling to breathe
and hungry means
never –
while on the open swells of space
the makers of light
are sculpting their own children
into effigies of war

Tides
04:42
|
|
||
I let the tide go out
I let the tide go out
and I’m the moon and the breathless stars above
I let the tide go into you
poisonous waves sharp with
shards of broken satellites
I let the tide go out
I let the tide go out
and I’m the moon and the blessed stars above
I let the tide go into you
poisonous wavers sharp with
shards of broken satellites
I have a tendency toward watery dreams
and I sometimes utter a silent scream
when I’m trapped in one those
watery dreams, watery dreams
watery dreams, watery dreams –
and I dearly hope that you will teach me
how to fly one of these nights
so that I will never let
the tide go out again
the tide go out again…

Prove to You
04:44
|
|
||
sweet picture of life
my mother showed me
harsh light in my eyes
my heart was studied
do clouds knows
of rain and snow
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
my love
look what you will find
a room of mirrors
my soul left behind
a pale spectre
do clouds know
of rain and snow
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
my love
all my life
I thought that you’d be there
and all my life
I didn’t know you
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
why must I prove to you
my love

City of Lights
03:53
|
|
||
we swam through the city of lights
stirring the waters
with steel dreams
and starless goodnights
I drift into you
our lives we knew
would be different
our hearts would hear
oceans break on plaster walls
we swam through the city of lights
stirring the waters
with steel dreams
and starless goodnights
I drift into you
our hopes seemed strange
cold and shallow
our hearts turned grey
in the city’s smog and pride
soaked greys in red earth
your love restores me
we swam through the city of lights
stirring the waters
our future ripples before us
and breaks in staggering moments of
truth and love
